WHAT TO DO BEFORE A SENSORY DEPRIVATION/ FLOAT TANK SESSION
If you’re new to floating, you may be a little unsure about what to expect and how to prepare. We have you covered. This guide will have you walking into your first float like a pro! You will get the most from your time in the float tank with just a little preparation.
PREPARE FOR YOUR FLOAT
Avoid caffeine or any stimulants at least 3 hours ahead of your float. That can interrupt the relaxation response!
Avoid heavy meals. A snack or a light bite 60-90 minutes before your float session is the perfect strategy to keep from feeling hungry in the tank. On the contrary, avoid eating any heavy meals that could make you feel lethargic or unsettled.
Avoid shaving the day of your float. Shaving creates micro-cuts on the skin’s surface. While water with 33% salt content is technically an excellent disinfectant to these micro-cuts, it can cause a stinging sensation, which is rather distracting from an ideal meditative state. For this reason, avoid shaving for an entire day before your float.
Schedule during a calm time of your day. You know your days and schedule best--book your float during the time of day when you feel most at ease.
Bring anything extraneous that would make you feel comfortable. Which will likely be nothing! By design, we have everything you need for a successful float experience right here in the studio. Each float tank is in your own private room with a shower, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, ear plugs, face cream, q-tips, deodorant, towels, and fresh socks! No clothing is necessary while inside the tank, and all of our products are paraben-free & sulfate-free. We even have vaseline to serve as a liquid bandage to protect any small cuts while inside the tank. After your float, we have a vanity room stocked with a Dyson hair dryer and hair products to help get you ready to reenter the outside world! All of that to say... if you would like to bring anything extra to help make you feel fresh after your float, such as makeup or other personal hygiene products, you are welcome to come prepared with these items.
Bring a journal! Don’t be surprised if you have some personal break throughs while in the tank! A journal is a great way to capture any sacred moments experienced within the tank. Guests are also welcome to use our lounge area to read, write, or simply enjoy the stillness with a beverage and simply be. All of these reflective resources are also provided within our lounge library, but you are welcome to bring your own material, as well!
